4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (90 min) weekly

We offer two programs for youth who wish to work in a group setting. Groups consist of a maximum of 8 students and are run by two of our trained, expert facilitators.

Our Study Skills program is offered to students in grades 3 to 6, and is specifically designed to teach individuals the various skills required to succeed academically. The facilitators will work with the group to teach topics such as test preparation, study habits, effective note taking, time management, healthy coping mechanisms for stress, as well as other skills necessary for academic success. Our goal is to provide students with these tools that will carry them throughout their academic and professional careers later on.

A Social Skills Program activity – creating a Garden of Social Skills

The Social Skills program is offered for youths from kindergarten to grade 6, and focuses on teaching the individuals various skills required to succeed in everyday life. The facilitators will work with the group in order to teach various topics including: encouraging self-esteem, dealing with bullying, establishing and maintaining friendships, dealing with strong emotions, and more. The aim of the sessions is to help the individuals learn various strategies to deal with difficult situations and to improve the youth’s ability to communicate with others. Our primary intention is to raise the self-esteem of the individuals such that they can go on to reach their full potentials as members of our society, and to help them lead full, happy lives.

Individual Work

Duration:

12 weeks or case-by-case basis

Time:

60 min weekday or night

Location:

Family Resource Center

Sometimes an individual may require additional services, or may not be quite ready to work in a group setting. The Family Resource Center offers individualized sessions for a client who prefers to work with a facilitator on a one-on-one basis. After completing an initial assessment to better understand the client’s personality and areas for development, the facilitator will then design a program that is tailored to the individual’s specific needs. We offer this program to all youths aged 5-25. The goal of this program is to improve the individual’s self-esteem, skills required for all-around success, and to develop personalized strategies for challenging situations. The topics covered are dependent on the specific needs of the individual, but are generally similar to the ones covered in the Study Skills or Social Skills programs.

Counseling

Duration:

Case-by-case basis

Time:

60 min weekday or night

Location:

Family Resource Center

Life isn’t always easy. Our goal is to make it easier for you. At the Family Resource Center, we understand that not all individuals require our specific programs, and benefit instead from working one-on-one with a trained facilitator to discuss various issues that they may be struggling with, or to simply discuss various life challenges that may be occurring on a daily basis. Sometimes, talking to someone is the best solution. We offer individual counseling to individuals of all ages who are not necessarily seeking a program; rather, they are looking for professional support in a trusting, secure, peaceful environment.
